Russell brings extensive experience in veterinary leadership, education, and governance to the Vet Nurse Plus Board.
He is the Chief Veterinary Officer at VetPartners, where he contributes to enterprise‑level strategy, clinical quality, and workforce development across a large and diverse veterinary network. Russell is deeply passionate about veterinary nurse education and previously played a key role in establishing Australia’s first Bachelor Degree in Veterinary Nursing, reflecting his long‑standing commitment to professional capability, education pathways, and recognition of veterinary nurses.
Russell has held senior leadership roles across veterinary, health, and community services, including Head of Hospital Services at Lort Smith Animal Hospital and General Manager at Guide Dogs Victoria.
He currently serves as a Non‑Executive Director on the Board of Seymour Health and is also Deputy Chair of the Victorian Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, providing expert advice to the Minister for Agriculture.
